Cover Reveal: Doodling for Writers by Rebecca Fish Ewan

A Sneak Peek

Earlier this year we announced how incredibly excited we are to work with a familiar face for our third single-author book. In case you missed that update, Rebecca Fish Ewan — whose illustrated memoir By the Forces of Gravity we published in June 2018 — signed with us for a craft-of-writing book that will spark creativity among writers of all genres.

Now, we’re thrilled to share the cover with you, another Lindsay Enochs design (previously credited listed as Lindsay Smuck).

That’s the cartoon version of Rebecca there on the cover, and she’s ready to guide you through drawing tips and exercises, offer motivational quotes, and perhaps most important: give encouragement! Delivered with her unique voice, style, and wit, Rebecca will be aided by a few additional characters, like the side-eye giving kitty seen on the cover! And, it’ll be the perfect size to carry around with you!

Doodling for Writers is set for an Oct. 6, 2020, release, and pre-orders begin in early August.

More About Doodling for Writers

The idea behind this project is that drawing and doodling — in the margins, on napkins, anywhere — can contribute to your writing process. Sketching things out can help you get over hurdles or bring back memories. It’s endless, really.

Rebecca says:

“This book is not about getting writers to abandon their craft so they can become artists. For one, writing is an art form, so they’re already artists. For two, this book is about letting drawing enrich their writing life, not replace it.”

The writing community needs books like this — needs this book.  Rebecca’s “drawing for writers” workshops, including at our annual conference HippoCamp, have been well-received — and a lot of fun. We’re excited that her ideas and wisdom will soon be available to writers everywhere through this portable, interactive book.
