Book Announcement: Doodling for Writers by Rebecca Fish Ewan Coming June 2020

Books by Hippocampus is incredibly excited to announce our next single-author book project, and we’re thrilled that it will allow us to work with a familiar face!

Rebecca Fish Ewan — whose illustrated memoir By the Forces of Gravity we published in June 2018 — signed with us for a craft-of-writing book that will spark creativity among writers of all genres.

It’s tentatively titled Doodling for Writers, with an updated release date of Oct. 6, 2020.

The idea behind this project is that drawing and doodling — in the margins, on napkins, anywhere — can contribute to your writing process.

Rebecca says: “This book is not about getting writers to abandon their craft so they can become artists. For one, writing is an art form, so they’re already artists. For two, this book is about letting drawing enrich their writing life, not replace it.”

Doodling for Writers will include drawing tips and exercises, motivational quotes, and perhaps most important: encouragement! All of this will be delivered in Rebecca’s unique voice and style — and by Rebecca herself, in her cartoon form, of course. (And she’ll be aided by a few additional characters!)

The writing community needs books like this — needs this book.  Rebecca’s “drawing for writers” workshops, including at our annual conference HippoCamp, have been well-received — and a lot of fun. We’re excited that her ideas and wisdom will soon be available to writers everywhere through this portable, interactive book.

So that’s the text version of the announcement — but we also have an illustrated version!

Be sure to sign up for our newsletter for updates on this and other Books by Hippocampus — and Hippocampus Magazine — news.
